Is Reiki for the gifted?

After explaining what Reiki is or sharing the messages afterwards that comes through during a session, the next question is usually about having to be gifted in order to do what I do. And the best news is: no, it doesn’t require a special talent or gift in order to learn Reiki. Everyone is connected to the universal life force energy and can learn to tap into it through initiation, allowing them to channel this energy for themselves or others. That the energy is universal doesn’t mean it is common practice, at least not on this side of the world. A commonly accepted example of tapping into this energy is the process of buying or renting a house. If you have been through the process, you might recognize that you ‘just knew it was my house when I walked in’ and everyone is accepting this as the truth, it is never questioned, not even in our more rationalized society.

Reiki is often learned in three levels: the first focuses on self-healing and sharing Reiki with others, the second introduces distant healing, and the third deepens mastery. Learning to use the abilities and getting familiar with the energy and the messages that are channelled through is a journey which is as unique as we are. When I first started, my ratio would question every move and message. Healthy curiosity and a willingness to learn, combined with feedback from my clients, gave me deeper understanding and trust: the messages and visions channelled during a session always resonate and hold significance for the receiver.

The more I practice and experience, the clearer the communication becomes. I can place a change in energy now and the way I receive words and guidance is much clearer than when I first started. It might sound a bit airy-fairy, but if you had told me a couple of years ago that I would be doing this, I wouldn't have believed you. Yet here I am. It feels natural to me now and I continue to learn with every session. Don’t worry when we meet in person, in order to tune in to your energy field, I need your permission, it is a two way street.

I hope to one day guide others on this beautiful journey as a Reiki teacher. After this initiation, I can initiate others to the first levels of reiki, so together we can share this gift of healing and allowing us to grow and develop a part that is slumbering in all of us.
